PROFESSIONAL PEST TECHNICIAN

REGISTRATION SCHEME

(PPTRS)

PPTR cardFor a number of years professional pest control technicians have been seeking a method of proving their skills to potential clients and employers. Thanks to a national registration scheme devised by DATAS, in consultation with the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health and National Pest Technicians Association, this can now be done in TWO ways.

A Unique Registration Card - By making use of new technology DATAS has been able to develop a card-based registration scheme.

Letters after Name - Registered Professional Pest Technicians are entitled to use the letters RPPT after their name.

How Does the Scheme Operate?

It is very simple. An application form is completed to record some basic information. The form is returned to DATAS offices together with a passport type photograph, proof of training and a fee. Depending upon the applicant’s qualification s/he can register as either a Professional Pest Technician or Professional Pest Technician (Advanced).

A card, similar to a credit card, will be issued. This card is the basis of the scheme because on it is recorded the sort of information a client or employer may need to know. Each card is unique and shows a photographic image of the cardholder, his/her qualification and level of competence, and additional or related qualifications (for example food hygiene). Registration lasts five years.

What are the Benefits?

To provide cardholders with recognition of their pest control and related competence and qualifications. To help improve employment and promotion prospects. Registered pest technicians can use RPPT after their name. An advanced registered pest technician can use RPPT (Adv.).

Who Can Join?

The scheme is open to any eligible individual whether or not currently employed in pest control. The key to eligibility is proof of achieving an approved pest control qualification.

Can You have Confidence in the Scheme?

An Advisory Committee representing the pest control industry has been established to help oversee the scheme. Experience of the PPTRS scheme has convinced clients, employers and employees of its benefits and that professionalism pays.
