We are conscious that although those involved in pest control are first and foremost the guardians of public health, many still regard pest control technicians as simply "rat catchers". Pest control today is both complex and highly regulated. Controlling target species without affecting the health of non-target species or damaging the environment takes both knowledge and skill.

DATAS is helping to improve the knowledge, skills and status of pest control technicians through the following initiatives:

TRAINING

We offer the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health's / BPCA Level 2 Certificate in Pest Control. 

For the more experienced pest technicians we offer the National Pest Technician Association's Advanced Diploma in Pest Management.                 

We offer the NPTA Practical Pest Control Course aimed at new entrants to pest control or existing pest control technicians who need to be familiarised with the latest pest control methods and techniques 

Registration

DATAS devised the Professional Pest Technician Registration Scheme in consultation with representatives from the industry . The scheme, which is underpinned by training, enables competent pest control technicians to have their skills recorded on a credit-card sized proof of qualification and training. 

 Competition 

The annual DATAS Pest Controller of the Year Awards are now a major event in the pest control year. Independent judges select winners on the basis of innovation, inspiration or that something special that makes the entry stand-out from all the others. The competition has three categories;  public sector, private sector and individual operative.  As one entrant said "The DATAS awards recognise that no matter what position a person holds in the organisation, each one of us has a value, and each one of us has a challenge."
